"A Touch Far Vetched!"
began as an idea in October 2004. Despite the success of previous Swansea
City fanzines, which included Jack Plug, Jackanory,
Black Swan and many others, Swansea City had not had a fanzine
as an alternative/compliment to the matchday programme for several years.
The growth of the internet had maybe to a degree rendered the fanzine
slightly defunct but it was felt that with the Swans looking to a new future
in a new stadium that the support base would appreciate the concept of a new
fanzine.
A working group of around 10-15 people was put together and contributions
invited from fanzine enthusiasts old and new to piece together a 32 page
fanzine in time to commemorate the Swans moving from the Vetch Field.
With generous funding from Jim White and Nigel Davies the fanzine was to
come to fruition. Michael Davies came on board as the designer of the
publication and worked many hours to piece together the fanzine before it
was turned into print format.
The initial edition went on sale before the Cambridge United game at the
Vetch on April 2nd and a few hardy souls persuaded Swans fans to part with
their hard earned £1 - selling out of the fanzine almost completely within
two games.
It was also decided that the fanzine would become non-profit making with any
surplus money being passed directly into
Youth Development at Swansea City
and indeed prior to the last ever fixture at the Vetch Field, Editor Nigel
Davies presented then head of youth development at Swansea, Alan Curtis,
with a cheque for £400.
